Taint my theory... there's many web pages about it... here's my own list of
evidence though (and I'm sure I've missed plenty):
Evidence of R2-D2, Master and chosen of the Force.
When we first meet R2 in episode 4 he's already acting big for his britches...
He gets the message from Leia, then heads off to escape...
3PO questioning him all the way, telling him he's not authorized in there,
etc... but he's probably just a robot doing his job, right?
On the planet below he heads off one way, 3PO another... yet they both end up
in the same sandcrawler, where a certain pair of buyers will
come calling soon...
We get our first inkling there's something really different about him When the
droids are being purchased from the Jawas, Owen Lars initially selects
C-3PO and R5-D4, a red droid. R2 goes apeshit and wobbles
and beeps wildly until the jawas fire off his restraining bolt. At this
point he looks at R5-D4, and the red droids motivator burns itself out.
Owen buys R2 instead.
In nearly every film we see R2 calmly walking across fields of fire from
blasters on every side, seemingly aware his force abilities will
insure he remains unshot. The only time R2 ever appears in danger of being
hit is when he's otherwise focused on things like hacking
computers and locks.
Need further evidence of his precog force powers? He seems to notice when real
dangers are about (like the sand people in Episode 4, or his scream
-right before- a shot that nearly hits him in Episode 1 is even fired),
yet doesn't bother mentioning relatively harmless ambushes
like the Ewoks or the dagobah swamp creature that swallows then spits him out.
How about the opinion of Darth Vader himself?
In 4, Darth, known to be an excellent pilot and shot, comes up behind Luke in
his X-wing... he sense the force powerfully up ahead. What
is the first thing he does? SHOOT R2-D2.
In 5, Luke senses his friends are in danger in cloud city and he must go help
them. What's the first thing Vader does when he gets there?
Cuts him off from R2-D2 by shutting a blast door between them.
You'll further note Lukes actions end up doing -nothing- to actually help his
friends. R2 on the other hand saves all their asses. How?
Vader had disabled the hyperdrive on the falcon... Chewie is clueless in fixing
it. R2 knows all about the problem though, and fixes it in
just a few moments, allowing our heros to escape.
Now, do the prequels support this theory? Absolutely!
In episode 1, who saves Amidalas ship when escaping from Naboo? R2-D2.
Oh, and by coincindence, the saved ship can't quite make it to Corusant
anymore... But they CAN make it to this backwater desert world...
exactly where R2 needs them to go to 'discover' Anakin... perhaps his 'fix' of
the shield generator also caused the leaking hyperdrive that
sent them there?
In the hanger bay late in episode 1, R2 calls to Anakin to come hide in the
fighter he's in. Then R2 powers it up for him (without being
ordered to BTW). Listen to the dialog in the sequence that follows. Anakin
doesn't know what he's doing. He explcitly tells R2 he didn't
do anything. Yet the ship takes off, heading for the droid control ship. R2
beeps in amusement. He's flying. After a while Anakin asks
R2 if he can override the "autopilot" heh. R2 finally turns contol back over,
but continues to give him dogfighting advice. When their
ship is being questioned by droids, R2 tells them he's the pilot. Oh, and how
does Anakin, master pilot and gunner, destroy the control
ship? He misses a point blank shot with 2 torpedos. Gee, I wonder if R2
altered that shot any to hit the -right- thing?
In episode 2 in Padmes bedroom... R2 knows the probe droid is there. He wakes
up when he notices. He does NOT sound the alarm yet though.
He waits. When she's NEARLY in deadly danger, then he sounds the alarm. So
the jedi in the next room can get the chance to realize the
danger and follow the probe droid.
Later in that film when Anakin tells Padme he's kinda scared she reassures him
there's nothing to worry about... after all, they have R2 with them. She
IS Luke and Leias mom after all, kinda sensitive to the force
ya think?
Episode 3 provides us the biggest array of evidence of all the prequels. R2
takes out the little attack droid on the wing of anakins ship
(that had killed Obi Wans droid without a fight), kicks the ass of a pair of
much bigger droids in the hanger bay... then after being
buried in a pile of debris... watch closely... he FORCE JUMPS 10 feet into the
air. He didn't use his thrusters there. Even better, at
the end of the episode... Bail Organa tells Captain Antilles to "have the
protocol droids memory wiped.". JUST 3PO. Why? Because 2
minutes earlier, offscreen, R2 told Organa "you don't need to have my memory
wiped". R2 jedi mind tricked Leias adpoted father! (arguably he mind
tricked Ben not to remember the droids either)
At every turn, in all six films, R2 is always in the right place, at the right
time, doing the right thing, to insure the story unfolds
exactly the way it must to bring balance to the force.
Still think Anakin or Luke is the chosen one?
