William Langewiesche is right -- you don't feel the turns during flight. But from what I could see, passengers who notice a steep bank out the window do not lean away to correct their vertical alignment, they lean toward the window for a better view. Perhaps Mr. Langewiesche was thinking of the pilots.

What's the deal with men wearing giant, lumpy gold rings? Surely no one would suggest it is some kind of fashion accessory. If you must show off your wealth, do it with a wad of hundreds in a carny roll.

Granted, it marks me a total geek, but I find it immensely cool that I can find the answer to a technical quesion by looking up a months-old dialogue between two Dutchmen.
